Rescue for The Riptide
September 3, 2015
UPDATE 9/11: Didn’t make it to that Riptide benefit in the Mission last week? You’ve still got plenty more chances to help out the bar. There’s this show tomorrow night at The Knockout. And on Sunday, Sept. 27, “Up From the Ashes,” will take place at the Make-Out Room, benefiting the bar’s employees. The show starts at 7 p.m. and will feature Red Meat, Brad Brooks, Tom Heyman and others.
ORIGINAL POST: Felled by a fire earlier this month, seaside bar The Riptide has inspired two upcoming benefit shows in the Mission.
Raise The Riptide takes place at 8 p.m. tonight at the Elbo Room, featuring lots of live music, special cocktails and a silent auction and raffle to raise money for the outer Sunset bar and music spot, which was destroyed by a two-alarm blaze on Aug. 18. The Chuckleberries, The Atom Age, The Ogres, Luci & The Pee Jays and special guest Lavay Smith are slated to play. Posters and t-shirts will be on sale; auction and raffle prizes include five days of music studio time and paintings by local artists.
From the Facebook event page:
The Riptide Seaside Saloon had a devastating fire but help is on the way! We refuse to let the legendary San Francisco honky tonk by the sea disappear! It’s time to help our friends and neighbors and repay all the life affirming good times they have given us over the years! So bring get yer butts over to Elbo and bring yer hearts, wallets and dancin’ shoes too!
A second benefit show for The Riptide is scheduled for Sept. 27 at the Make-Out Room. I’ll update this post as more details become available.
