New street lights for Capp Street, 17th
April 17, 2015
Capp Street is getting prettier – well, at least as far as its streetlights are concerned.
PG&E crews have begun to repaint or replace dozens of lamp posts along Capp and a section of 17th Street and outfit them with more energy efficient lights.
In all, PG&E plans to swap 98 incandescent lamps with more efficient high pressure sodium lights and replace eight lamp posts, according to Nick Smith, a company spokesman. The project will extend from 15th to 26th on Capp and along 17th from Capp to Castro Street.
Smith said the lights along those two stretches had “reliability issues” and had been slated for repair. The work, which will also include crosswalk paving and new sidewalk concrete, is scheduled to be completed by the end of May.
